Frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’re here to help

Title

1.  I can't find what I'm looking for on the website, can BannerBay fulfil custom order requests?

For any custom order requests, we may be able to provide you with a bespoke quote. Please head over to our Get a Quote page, and complete the relevant form. A member of our team will then get in touch.

2. Can I cancel my order?

To cancel your order, contact us promptly. If the order hasn't been sent for printing, cancellation is possible. Once it's in print or completed and ready, cancellation will not be possible. In this case, please refer to our Refund Policy.

3. What format should the artwork files be provided in?

Artwork files can be provided in the following formats:

.AI .CDR .EPS .JPEG .PNG .PDF and .PSD

Please note - We do not accept Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Publisher files.

4. What is the required minimum resolution for artwork files?

The minimum resolution for artwork files that you send to us should be 300 DPI.

DPI is an acronym for ‘dots per inch’. This is the number of small printed dots contained within an inch of a printed item. A higher DPI results in more dots per inch, which in turn results in clearer print quality.

5. How should I size my artwork?

Ensure your artwork matches the final print size. For example, if purchasing an A4 product, create your artwork with A4 dimensions, whilst also taking into account requirements for Bleed, Safe Zone, Safety Margin, and Trim requirements.

6. What does the Bleed, Safe Zone, Safety Margin and Crop Marks mean?

A. Bleed: The Bleed Zone provides extra space around the design to accommodate any movement of the material during printing. It ensures no white borders or unprinted areas appear after trimming.

A 5mm bleed is recommended on each side of your design. (See diagram below)

B. Safe Zone: This area inside the Safety Margin is where crucial text or graphical elements should be placed to prevent them from being cut off during trimming. Anything inside this zone remains intact. (See diagram below)

C. Safety Margin: It acts as a buffer between the Safe Zone and the final trimming area, marked by Crop Marks. Adding a 5mm Safety Margin ensures essential elements stay clear of the trimming edges. Crop Marks should be included in your design.

Please ensure there is a Safety Margin of 5mm on each side of your design.

Please ensure you include Crop Marks within your design.

(See diagram below)

7. What are Cut Files?

Cut files, are required to tell us how we need to cut around your design.

Usually, a path is added around your design which we will use as a guide for our cutting machines.

This can usually be defined by a seamless line overlaid on top of your artwork that follows the shape of your design.

The line is usually coloured in magenta so that it stands out from the rest of your design and is easy for our software and machinery to identify.

For any order requiring custom shape cutting, please also include all cut files along with your artwork.

8. What are CMYK and RGB colour modes?

Both CMYK and RGB are modes for how colours are mixed.

The key differences being that the CMYK colour mode is used for printed products and commercial printing. The RGB colour mode is used to represent colours on a screen, so perfect for digital products and websites.

9. How do I make my artwork 'Print Ready' - Our Checklist

When we mention making an artwork file 'Print-Ready,' it means ensuring the file meets all criteria for creating a high-resolution, perfectly printable product, without needing further adjustments.

Upon receiving a print-ready file, our production team can utilize it without any additional modifications.

To make artwork 'Print Ready,' ensure the following criteria are met:

  1. Check that your artwork has been created to the correct or actual size of the finished product.
  2. Confirm that the minimum resolution for the artwork is set as 300 DPI.
  3. Ensure that there is a Bleed of 5mm on each side of your design.
  4. Ensure that there is a Safe Zone of 5mm on each side of your design.
  5. Ensure you have included Crop Marks for trimming in your artwork
  6. Confirm all spelling and grammar errors have been checked and corrected.
  7. Ensure that the artwork file has been set up using the CMYK colour mode, not RGB.
  8. Please ensure all text in your artwork has been flattened (or outlined) and all images have been embedded.
  9. For any orders requiring custom shape cutting, please ensure you include all cut files along with your artwork.
